GOUACHE ON PAPER BY KEITH SHACKLETON MBE (ENGLISH 1923-2015) GANNETTS & BOOBIES

A dramatic gouache on paper of gannetts and boobies by Keith Shackleton (English 1923-2015), a well-known British naturalist and artist. Signed lower right. Shackleton was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2012 for his efforts as an artist for services to the conservation of wildlife. A retrospective exhibition of his "Polar Art" depicting creatures from the Arctic and Antarctic was held at the Scott Polar Research Institute in 2007. Shackleton's grandfather was the world famous British explorer Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton who led multiple expeditions to Antarctica and famously was able to save his entire crew which was ice locked for a period of months. Recently his sunken ship was found at a depth of 10,000 feet in a remarkable state of preservation. Provenance: Tryon Gallery, London.
