ENGLISH LATE REGENCY MAHOGANY SECRETAIRE BOOKCASE BY GILLOWS OF LANCASTER

A beautifully crafted late Regency mahogany secretaire bookcase in 2 parts, made and signed by Gillows of Lancaster, one of England's finest cabinetmakers for over 200 years. The piece has a projecting molded cornice over an open bookcase upper section flanked by reeded pilasters with 6 adjustable shelves. The lower section, also with reeded pilasters, has a secretaire drawer with a well-fitted interior and a leather lined drop down writing surface above 2 paneled cupboard doors centered by figured mahogany panels resting on bun feet. Stamped Gillows Lancaster on the edge of the secretaire drawer. This is a great piece of furniture in fine original condition with lovely color and patina. Circa 1835.
