TIFFANY & CO. FRENCH CARRIAGE CLOCK WITH ORIGINAL CASE

$2,850.00

A very fine French made carriage clock retailed and signed by Tiffany and Company complete with its original leather carrying case. This lovely timepiece has a number of "complications" or features that indicate the complexity of the movement and how often it strikes a chime or bell, etc. The clock bell strikes on the hour and half-hour and has a repeater mechanism which allows one to know the time by pushing a button on the top of the clock, thus striking the number of hours at the moment as well as the nearest 15 minute intervals. The case is gilt brass with beveled glass side, front and top panels. This clock was likely made by one of the famous clock makers of the period, like Drocourt or Henri Jacot. A clock, such as this one, which has this identical cluster of mechanical complications-striking on the hour/half hour, an hour repeater button on the top, and a subsidiary alarm dial points directly to the carriage clocks made by these workshops. Runs well. Circa 1890.
