Captain Thomas Williamson (c.1758–1817) was a British army officer, sportsman, and natural historian whose writings remain among the most important early English language accounts of wildlife and field sports in India. Serving for many years with the East India Company, Williamson combined firsthand experience with keen observation to document the animals, hunting practices, and landscapes of the subcontinent. His works are valued not only for their vivid sporting narratives but also for their contribution to early natural history, offering detailed descriptions of species such as the tiger, elephant, rhinoceros, and other indigenous wildlife. Oriental Field Sports (first published in 1807) is widely regarded as his most significant and enduring publication.
