FINE PAIR OF JAPANESE ORNATELY DECORATED TABLE LAMPS WITH FLOWERS AND ROOSTERS

$2,250.00

An impressive pair of Japanese gilt enameled porcelain lamps with brushed bronze mounts elaborately decorated with bold roosters in a background setting of vines and morning glories as well as chrysanthemums. Roosters are revered in Shinto culture as highly auspicious symbolizing awakening and renewal. Morning glories represent innocence and chrysanthemums are the national symbol of the Emperor of Japan. When a rooster is paired with morning glories it suggests a perfect morning scene and a safe prosperous home protected from negative forces. These lamps came from the estate of an important physician in San Francisco. Twentieth century,
