Two first edition first printings by important award-winning African-American author James Baldwin with dust jackets: "If Beale Street Could Talk" published Dial Press 1974 This is Baldwin's fifth novel. It is a love story set in Harlem in the 1970's. The title comes from the W.C. Handy song "Beale Street Blues" after Beale Street in downtown Memphis "The Fire Next Time" published Dial Press 1963. This is Baldwin's two essays dealing with the racial tensions of the 1960's in America. The first essay is "My dungeon Shook: Letter to My Nephew on the One Hundredth Anniversary of the Emancipation". The second essary is titled "Down at the Cross: Letter from a Region in My Mind"
