Irwin John David Bevan (English 1852-1940) A dramatic pair of English watercolors on paper depicting naval battles. The paintings are inscribed on the versos as follows: The first: Royal Sovereign at Trafalgar bearing the fire of 5 ships. The second: HMS Mermaid's Action with French 40 Gun Frigate Loire, Oct 17, 1798. These dynamic well-painted naval battle scenes are good examples of the genre. Framed in giltwood mouldings with plexi-glass glazing. Provenance: A prominent Bay Area family.
