ITALIAN EIGHTEENTH CENTURY PAINTED SERPENTINE SERVING TABLE WITH CENTRAL DRAWER

$3,850.00

An Italian 18th century "lacca povera" serpentine top serving table with a central drawer, the top painted to imitate stone, the body exuberantly decorated with overall foliate designs in blues and yellows resting on cabriole legs. This charming and useful piece has a provincial almost folk art quality. While the basic piece dates from the late 18th century, the paint decoration is likely of a later date. Lacca povera translates to "poor man's lacquer" and while this piece differs greatly from typical examples (which usually are imitations of Asian lacquer work) it seems to fall into a less sophisticated version of the art form. Circa 1770.
