"The Comic History of England," by Gilbert Abbott A' Beckett published by Bradbury Evans & Co., London, n.d. two volumes bound in one, with 20 hand-colored engraved plates, magnificently rebound by Bayntun of Bath. This book is in near mint condition with minimum wear and minor foxing, the covers, in full green leather with gilt dentelles on all sides. The 6 panel raised spine is finished in gilt tooled light and dark brown smooth leather. All page edges gilt, with marbled endpapers. An amusing and beautifully illustrated work, the plates by the famous English illustrator and caricaturist John Leech best known for his work with Punch magazine and as the first illustrator of Dickens' novella "A Christmas Carol". Circa 1860
