CHINESE HAN DYNASTY (202 BC-220 AD) PATINATED BRONZE VESSEL PROVENANCE: AXEL VERVOORDT

A covered spherical Chinese Han dynasty ritual food vessel or Ding, the rounded body resting on three stylized feet. The cover has a conical form with a flat top and 3 circular cast grips. The vessel has 2 upraised angular handles. This type of object was used for cooking food and after death and accompanied the deceased as Mingqi or gifts in their elaborate tombs. The wonderful patina comes from its millennia long stay in the soil. Provenance: Axel Vervoordt, July 1999.
