ALBERT CLAES-THOBOIS (BELGIUM 1883-1945) OIL ON CANVAS "ATELIER CUBISANT"
An evocative oil on canvas in the Art Deco style depicting a view from a window, signed and dated 1929 in the lower center of the picture. Claes-Thobois was born in 1883 and studied at the Academy of Brussels under Constant Montaid and Herman Richir. In the early 1920's the artist worked as an illustrator of books and literary magazines. His career spanned an age of great change in the art world and he worked in the Impressionistic, Cubist, and Fauvist styles over the course of his life. The present work is a fine example of his hard-edged Cubist period with good color and an interesting juxtaposition Claes-Thobois is represented in the National Collection of Belgium and the Museum of Modern Art in Brussels. He died is Schaerbeek, Belgium in 1945. Framed Dimensions: H.34" W.29"
