An English black and gilt-decorated tilt-top tripod table of large scale, the rectangular top with a black background depicting a gold painted village scene in an exotic mountainous landscape. The top further depicts a small group of houses set on a river or lake. The tilt-top is supported by a bird cage action which allow it to rotate in the flat position and can be removed for easier transport. The underlying piece dates from the late 18th century while the japanning was done later, probably in the middle of the 20th century.
